ENREGO will also serve as Voodin’s global partner for growth and financing, helping promote the benefits and sustainability of these remarkable wind turbine blades
Lichtenfels, Germany, December 12, 2024 – Voodin Blade Technology, creators of the world’s first wooden wind turbine blades, has announced a partnership with ENREGO Energy, with ENREGO acquiring a stake in the company and serving as their global partner for growth and financing. ENREGO supports Voodin’s mission of solving the waste problem of conventional wind turbine blades, making an earth-friendly source of energy that much friendlier.
Most wind turbine blades are made from carbon or fiber glass which cannot be recycled and does not biodegrade, leading experts to estimate that roughly 50 million tons of blade material will end up in landfills by 2050. Voodin is solving this problem by making blades from sustainable wood. The startup’s blades use laminated veneer lumber which makes them as efficient and durable as standard blades but with the ability to be recycled after use (approx. 20-25 years). The company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing process uses CNC milling machines and guarantees fast, flexible, consistent production. Voodin’s blades match the efficiency and resilience of standard blades while being more cost-effective and emitting fewer emissions during production.
In early 2024, Voodin installed blades on an ENERCON E-40 wind turbine, proving these claims and paving the way for further installations. Voodin is now collaborating with leading wind turbine manufacturers to design and produce rotor blades for the 6 MW class. Additionally, the retrofit market remains a key area of focus, with Voodin aiming to deliver innovative solutions for existing turbines.
“This partnership is a huge step forward both for Voodin and wind energy,” says Tom Siekmann, CEO of Voodin Blade Technology GmbH. “ENREGO’s expertise in the renewable energy sector allows us to focus on manufacturing these blades while they help accelerate the transition to a greener, more sustainable world.”
Founded on decades of experience and expertise in renewable energies by Hans-Dieter Kettwig, Wolfgang Juilfs, and Dr. PKC Bose, ENREGO Energy recognizes the immense potential in Voodin’s innovative business model.
“The demand for sustainable components in wind turbine manufacturing has grown significantly in recent years,” says Hans-Dieter Kettwig, Chairman of ENREGO Energy GmbH. “With the development of its wooden rotor blade, Voodin has achieved a groundbreaking milestone.”
Voodin Blade Technology has developed the world’s first wooden wind turbine blades, its technology providing a renewable alternative to the millions of tons of blade material currently being disposed of in landfills. Voodin’s process uses sustainably sourced laminated veneer lumber – known for its strength, dimensional stability and high load-bearing capacity – with a future-proof coating to make blades that are more cost-effective and compatible with any wind turbine in the world.
Founded in 2021, Voodin Blade Technology is a privately held company based in Lichtenfels, Germany. For more information visit voodin-blades.com.
